This page lists the learning outcomes of the PGCHE modules and contains links to the various pages within this portfolio where evidence of achievment of these learning outcomes can be found.

Module 1

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
  1. Models of how diverse groups of students learn, including those with disabilities and implications for teaching.
  2. Curriculum development (including `reasonable adjustments' for disabled learners,) planning and the importance of aligning learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessment.
  3. The role of research in teaching, and of research-based learning.

Demostrate their intellectual skills in their ability to:

  1. Assess a range of contrasting theories and models describing student learning and approaches to teaching.
  2. Analyse and reflect upon data to solve problems in the context of their own teaching and learning in higher education.
  3. Clarify fundamental personal and discipline values which impact on learning and teaching in the professional world.
  4. Abstract and synthesise information from a wide range of inputs to improve professional practice.

Participants should demonstrate their competence in:

  1. Planning, delivering and evaluating taught courses with which they are associated.
  2. Teaching diverse learners simultaneously, to facilitate active, deep learning.

Participants should show evidence of their ability to:

  1. Communicate (using written and presentation skills) with a range of colleagues about learning and teaching, from diverse academic backgrounds
  2. Work collegially, and in teams with a variety of colleagues, and students
  3. Integrate personal research findings into teaching contexts.

Module 2

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
  1. How to support learning using traditional and new strategies and methods, appropriate to a range of teaching contexts
  2. Methods of assessing and evaluating students, and how to give feedback to them.
  3. Developments in the field of learning and teaching in higher education, from an institutional, national and international perspective.

Demostrate their intellectual skills in their ability to:

  1. Critically interpret, judge and evaluate data with the intention to enhance their students' learning and to improve their own teaching.
  2. Make appropriate decisions which will enhance student learning and promote professional practice.

Participants should demonstrate their competence in:

  1. Using varied teaching activities appropriately, including those based on information technology, to support learning and teaching.
  2. Assessing student learning, to improve teaching practice.

Participants should show evidence of their ability to:

  1. Communicate (using written and presentation skills) with a range of colleagues about learning and teaching, from diverse academic backgrounds.
  2. Evaluate the use of traditional and new teaching methods, including those based on the use of C & IT.
  3. Work collegially, and in teams with a variety of colleagues, and students.
  4. Integrate personal research findings into teaching contexts.

Module 3

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
  1. Appropriate quality assurance for developing accountable practice.

Demostrate their intellectual skills in their ability to:

  1. Critically interpret, judge and evaluate data with the intention to enhance their students' learning and to improve their own teaching.

Participants should demonstrate their competence in:

  1. Reflecting critically using a variety of feedback sources, to improve their own professional practice.

Participants should show evidence of their ability to:

  1. Investigate the influence of values on learning and teaching.
  2. Reflect critically for the purpose of improving personal, professional practice.
