Abstract

The technological advances in the computing landscape have
changed the way that we do science; we have become inseparably reliant on
algorithms, software and systems for doing our research. However, the
challenges we face in this space are well beyond simply synthesizing a
solution
to our problem. One of the key issues is scalability which begs the
question of
how do we render solutions which can reasonably scale across architectural
and
data spaces.

In this talk we will overview some of the scalability
challenges we face, especially in the context of HPC and Big data
processing,
exemplified by problems from various domains of sciences and potential
solutions to those problems.
