This module aims to prepare students enteringthe work environment by providing them with the skills required to secure eitheran internship or a graduate job.

 
28. Learning Outcomes
 

(LO1) Students will gain the ability to critically reflect on andevaluate their skills in relation to prospective employers’ requirements andidentify their development needs;

 

(LO2) Students will gain the ability to research career opportunities relevant to their degree specialism in relation to their own career aspirations using a range of media and approaches;

29. Teaching and Learning Strategies
 

Teaching Method 1 - Employers or Careers led sessions
Description: Will run weekly and each session will last 2 hours. They will cover a mixture of completion of application forms, interview techniques, cv workshops and sourcing employer information.

30. Syllabus
   

The module builds on the employability focussed topics that are introduced COMP107 and develops them in the context of preparing one or more specific job applications. The module is organised in 12 two hour long sessions, led by prospective employers, and in permits students to cover more in depth some of the issues introduced by COMP107. The syllabus for this module will cover: Introduction to the module. Critical reflection and introduction to career planning Practical CV exercises and CV preparation. Meet past placement students Career choices awareness and Researching employers Networking; Myers Brigg self-assessment exercises Interviewing techniques: star, video interviews, etc Teamwork and Leadership; communication and culture. Managing projects; report writing;  Assessment centres. Psychometric test practice. Employer-led mock interviews. Technical interviews. Professional image - making an impact on your placement: Linkedin, etc Review of module; application support
