DESCRIPTION:Prof Paul Watry: Indigo Data Management System and Computational Science\n\nWe will present a data management infrastructure (Indigo) that addresses both the science and engineering data life cycle and the sustianability of data collections. The approach responds to the new generation of facilities and instruments that require a closer coupling between compute and data resources, bringing these together with strong links to computational modelling and data analytics expertise. The Indigo system offers the potential for a scalable metadata catalogue that could underpin a large range of advanced engineering projects. Based on the Cassandra database system, the platform is modern and is built with heterogeneous big data in mind. We describe how the Indigo system will support virtual engineering in which machines will be built in silico, involving thousands of scientists and engineers from many disciplines around the world, in industry and academic working together on the design. The Indigo system offers promise for underpinning the metadata and management systems that could be used to develop the systems and hardware of next generation plant.
