COMP516 - Research Methods in Computer Science (2008-2009)Administrative DetailsLecturesCOMP516 lectures take place as follows:
Lectures start on Monday, 24 September 2007. In total there will be 30 lectures which will include presentations by members of the various research groups of our departments. The lecturer is Dr. Ullrich Hustadt, Room 1.03, Ashton Building. Dr. Ullrich Hustadt is usually available Monday, 15:00-17:00 for questions concerning COMP516. Please send an e-mail to U.Hustadt@liverpool.ac.uk if you want an appointment at this or any other time. Tutorials/PracticalsThe lectures will be complemented by tutorials and practical sessions. Unless otherwise announced, these sessions will take place Tuesday, 13:00-14:00 in Lab 6, Holt Building. AttendanceStudents are expected to attend both lectures and tutorials/labs unless they have a good reason not to. (For further details see Section 3.8 in Postgraduate Student Handbook Appendix 3.) Attendance will be monitored. AssessmentYou pass or fail the module according to your continuous assessment performance on two essays:
The 2,000 word essayThe topic of this essay will be chosen by the examiner and a description of the topic as well as some guidance notes will be handed out on Tuesday, 30 September during the lecture. The 5,000 word essayIn principle, the subject of the second essay can be the consideration of any current research topic or current technological development in Computer Science.
