1. WELCOME

Expert update is the magazine of the BCS-SGAI (formerly BCS-SGES). Its mission is to foster the aims and objectives of the group by publishing news, conference reports, book reviews, conference announcements, calls for papers and articles on subjects of interest to the members. Expert update is sent free of charge to all SGES members and to some 120 selected scientific libraries in the UK. (Previous issues, Front cover and, for any one wishing to use them, logos.)

2. CONTRIBUTIONS

Contributions for Expert Update should be set to the Editor. Contributions may be:

• Articles (any length up to 7000 words), which can cover academic papers, commercial applications/product reports, research area surveys, research institution surveys, critical responses to earlier articles, Etc.
• Conference reports (1000 words approx.)
• Book reviews (1000 words approx.)
• Announcements, e.g. grants obtained, inauguration of research projects, Etc.
• Letters to the editor
• Discussion of SGES activities
• Calls for papers
• News items/reports
• Diary entries
• Cartoons
• Adverts
