Industrial Links in the Department of Computer Science

Through its internationally recognised research and high quality teaching, the Department of Computer Science has strong and growing links with industry at local, national and international levels. Here we provide a brief introduction to these interactions, covering research, teaching, careers, and the Department's Industrial Liaison Committee.

 

Research

The Department has a strong record of collaborative research with industry working with companies of all sizes, from large multi-nationals to small start-ups. (some examples)

Teaching

Many aspects of the teaching within the Department are informed by industrial developments. Most degree programmes offer the opportunity to tackle work based learning projects with external companies or organisations. The department has also recently introduced a new degree programme BSc (Hons) Degree in Computing with a Year in Industry. (further information)

Careers

Most companies and organisations rely heavily on computer systems for their core operations. This has created demand for many different specializations, both in the development of software systems, and in the application of such systems to business requirements.
